A major fire gutted a chemical factory located at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, destroying property worth around Rs 20 lakh, once again bringing to the fore the absence of a fire station in the Cuncolim municipal area.
The Margao fire brigade that rushed to the industrial estate after receiving a call at around 4.30 pm managed to bring the fire under control with water drawn from the tankers.
Sources in the fire brigade informed that the owner has claimed that property worth around Rs 20 lakh has been destroyed in the fire.
Cuncolim town has no fire station, even though the fire brigade had mooted a full-fledged station in the municipal area around a decade ago.
The demand was again raised when Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had descended on the Cuncolim Industrial Estate along with local MLA Clafacio Dias.
